St. John the Baptist offers weekly grade-specific Religious Education classes for children in grades K-8  who are not enrolled in Catholic school. These classes, which are taught by teams of volunteer catechists, provide each student with an increasing understanding of the basic tenets of our faith as they grow in their love of God.  Classes fill on a first-come basis.

Religious Education for all Grades K-8 meets in the School on Sunday 10:15-11:25 a.m. Families are encouraged to attend Mass together.

            The absolute last day registrations will be accepted is Thursday, Sept. 19
                                               
Make checks payable to St. John the Baptist.   Complete both sides of Registration/Emerg Contact Form. Return all to Parish Office. Tuition supports only part of the costs. The remainder is subsidized by weekly envelope collections.   
**If you are not registered at St. John’s we will need a letter of permission from your pastor to attend these classes.
To register your child for First Reconciliation and First Communion Prep, please call or visit the Parish Office: 301-622-1122.  First Reconciliation must be received before Holy Communion. No additional fees.

Catechist for Grades K to 5

Teach elementary faith formation classes. Requires a single school year commitment (September through early May) to teach a grade continuously on Sunday mornings 10:15-11:25 a.m. Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.

Catechist Aide for Grades K to 5

Assist in elementary faith formation classes. Requires a single school year commitment (Sept. through early May) to assist with a grade continuously on Sun. mornings 10:15-11:25 a.m.  Could be a high school student. For those over 18, Virtus training is required but can be completed through SJB.
 

Curriculum Planner

Plan lessons and support catechists for a particular grade of faith formation. Requires a single school year commitment (Sept. through early May) which includes being present for classes Sun. mornings, 10:15-11:25 a.m.. Virtus training is required but can be completed through SJB.

Catechist for Grades 6-8

Teach middle school faith formation classes. Requires a single school year commitment (September through early May) to teach a grade continuously on Sundays, 10:15-11:25 a.m. Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.

Catechist Aide for Grades 6-8

Small Church Community

A small group (no more than 12) of parishioners that meets regularly for community, reflection of scripture, prayer, and food (of course!). Meeting schedule and time commitment depends on the group.
 

Bible Study

Athletic

Coach the various sports offered through SJB’s Athletic Ministry program—soccer, basketball, baseball/softball. Coaches are needed for all ages, Kindergarten through High School. High school students may volunteer to assist with younger grades. For those over 18, Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.
 

Youth Ministry Volunteer

Assist with various activities of the Youth Ministry Program, such as service trips, social events and other group activities for which adult chaperones are needed. Must be over 18 years old. Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.
 

Brownies

SJB hosts Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. If you would be willing to serve as a Den Leader, Pack Leader, or other Scout volunteer, we are always looking for more assistance. Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.
 

Junior Girl Scouts

SJB hosts Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. If you would be willing to serve as a Den Leader, Pack Leader, or other Scout volunteer, we are always looking for more assistance. Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.
 

Cub Scouts

First Eucharist Shepherd

Welcome the First Communion child and family, and assist the priest by helping them celebrate at Mass. Volunteer commitment is a few Sundays per year.
 

RCIA Sponsor

Supports and walks with a person on the path to becoming Catholic. Attends classes and stands with candidate during RCIA rituals, especially at the Easter Vigil Mass. Volunteer commitment is for one year beginning in the Summer and going through Spring.
