At St. John the Baptist Catholic Community, we strive to continue the mission of our Lord through our social concerns ministries. We see social concerns as integral to the life of our parish.

We strive to reflect on the social mission of the Church in all that we do. Recognizing that Baptism calls us all to mission, social concerns ministries strive to involve the entire parish by:

1. Providing educational opportunities to parishioners in Catholic Social Teaching.
2. Reaching out in service.
3. Working for a just and peaceful world through advocacy and solidarity with the poor and vulnerable.

Whether it is joining our Eco-Ministry, supporting our Prison Ministry or getting involved with our Sister Parish, St. Pierre in Baradères, Haiti, there is sure to be a way you will want to be involved with a Social Justice Ministry at St. John’s.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops outline seven key themes that are at the core of all the church’s social teachings:

• Life and Dignity of the Human Person:
  Every human life is sacred and must be protected.

• Call to Family, Communion and Participation:
  We are called to participate in community life and work for the common good.

• Rights and Responsibilities:
  Our rights as humans call us to be responsible members of society and to care for each other.

• Option for the Poor and Vulnerable:
  We are called to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first.

• The Dignity and Rights of Workers:
  Workers should be treated fairly and justly compensated for their labor.

• Solidarity:
  We are one human family and called to love and respect our neighbor, despite racial, ethnic, national, or economic differences.

• Care for God’s Creation:
  We show our respect for God’s creation by exercising good stewardship.
